What to Expect

from Your Hypnotherapy Session

Initial Consultation

Approximately one hour
Available in my comfortable therapy room or online via zoom


During the Initial Consultation, we will spend time discussing the reasons you are seeking hypnotherapy and what you hope to gain from it. Once I have gathered some basic information and gained a clear understanding of your individual situation, I will explain how the brain works, helping you to understand why you are experiencing these difficulties and, importantly, what we can do to move forward.
This is often when clients experience a ‘light-bulb’ moment and realise that, with the help of Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, positive change is possible — leaving the consultation feeling hopeful, empowered, and reassured about a more positive way of thinking and living.

Understanding the process and next step
I will then give you an overview of how we would proceed with the hypnotherapy sessions, including an explanation of the trance process, which is far more common and natural than most people realise. At this stage, I will ensure you feel comfortable with the process, and we will discuss your commitment, including an agreed approximate number of sessions. I will also provide you with a link to my relaxation audio, designed to help calm your mind and support a better quality of sleep.

 

Building trust and choice
The time spent together during the consultation helps us to build rapport and establish a positive working relationship. You are then able to decide whether you feel comfortable and would like to proceed with further sessions. There is no pressure to make a decision at this stage — hypnotherapy is a commitment, and it is important that you feel completely confident and happy with your choice to move forward.

Ongoing sessions

Approximately 50 minutes


These sessions are usually made up of around 25 minutes of positive communication, where we discuss your progress and revisit your ultimate goal. You will be invited to talk about the positive things that have happened during your week — moments that have made you smile or feel good.

Our focus remains firmly on solutions, without dwelling on any negatives. I will then gently guide you to look ahead, helping you to connect with a future that feels calmer, brighter, and full of possibility.

Hypnosis and trance
Once the talking therapy part of the session is complete, I will guide you through a relaxing journey of hypnosis, using guided imagery, positive language, and therapeutic metaphors to help you feel calm, refreshed, and mentally relaxed.

Hypnosis is a natural state in which the mind can become more receptive to positive, indirect suggestion, supporting the release of unhelpful thought patterns. We experience similar states naturally every day — such as when absorbed in a television programme or while driving and arriving home without remembering every part of the journey.

The trance session usually lasts around 25 minutes and is deeply relaxing, helping you to feel positive, confident, and ready to embrace the week ahead.
